The unique shape of the bow creates no turbulence, and minimal water is shipped on deck. Drag induced by lateral laminar flow is almost completely absent. The unusually high buoyancy of the nose is due to the prodigious volume of the above-waterline bow that, when submerged, creates a vigorous upward thrust. Yet during normal navigation in calm seas, this voluminous bow does not impair speed as the submerged part of the bow below the waterline is minimal.
